a week without an update. when there’s so much going on, you could argue that i’m puposefully ignoring my blog.. but more likely, i just haven’t had the time to update. yikes.
paige is better
paige is finally better from the little cold she had, thank god for zyrtec and albutorol. on my new health coverage (aetna), apparently you have to have a doctor’s “permission slip” with the insurance company in order for them to approve using insurance coverage on zyrtec. megalomaniacs. have i mentioned lately that i hate insurance companies? oh.. you do to? why don’t we do something about it?
VoIP update
installed my VoIP service from lingo last week and it seemed to be working pretty well with only a single caveats since i use a combo cordless phone system / answering machine, the answering machine/base had to be in my (already cluttered) study because the lingo VoIP adaptor connects to your router via a LAN wire. this problem was fixed by grabbing a wireless bridge and hooking it into the adapter. now my answering machine is back in the living room. woo! another strange problem i had temporarily — i was speaking with opie for a rather long time over the VoIP service.. and every 11 minutes the call would get dropped. all i would hear was silence. i called up to lingo tech support the next day and a sorta-weird canadian rep pushed a new version of the firmware out to my adapter. i’ve had 2 or 3 20 minute conversations since then with no problems, so i’m guessing the problem is fixed.
the furthest we’ve ever been from each other
saturday morning, paige is headed out to sunny california to enjoy a week with her best friend shauna. i’m really going to miss her.. she better bring me back some kind of memento! i take off sunday for hibernate training in atlanta hosted by steve and gavin, and get back late wednesday night.. don’t miss me too badly!
the swamp of work i call “jboss”
i’ve been up to my eyeballs in responsibility and tasks the past week. i’ve been trying my hardest to get something formidable out for the initial webtools contribution. hopefully it happens, but i’m a bit skeptical, due to the lengthy process involved in getting it in. i’ve also been managing all the people who want to help contribute to jbosside. all of them are really excited, and i’ve gotten a contribution from one of them already. i love building a team! max andersen of hibern8ide/hibernate console fame has also joined jboss as of yesterday. welcome max!
