the post-halloween post

Posted by Marshall in November 1st 2006

halloween has been pretty eventful for us this year, with 2 events happening within a few days of each other. we headed out to shauna’s sunday night for a halloween party where there was pumpkin carving, snack eating, video game playing, wine drinking, and lots of chit-chat. take a look at some of the carvings that were made:

on top of that, we also decided to add a new member to our family; little puppy juno! we picked her out at a breeder in terrell (about an hour’s drive from lewisville), and she is so dang cute you’ll start “awwing” for sure. check her out:

my engadget photo contest entry

Posted by Marshall in October 29th 2006

for a few hours this weekend i worked on a photo entry for the engadget photo contest. the theme of the photo was supposed to be “gadgets”, and that’s pretty much it… there’s a lot of room for creativity. my entry has to do with a running joke at engadget; the eventual takeover of human kind by super intelligent robots. i used the NXT robot kit that paige bought me, my iPod, my N73, and my bluetooth stereo headphones to create an engadget-podcast-listening (wirelessly over bluetooth), engadge-website-browsin’ (using a cell phone!), xenocidal robot. let the photo speak for itself:

the state of port security, err.. online poker

Posted by Marshall in October 22nd 2006

my initial knee-jerk reaction to the new port security bill passed out of the senate a few weeks ago was to cash out all my online poker accounts and never look back. what does poker have to do with port security you say? well, those pandering religious-right senators in congress have successfully attached a restriction on U.S banks to disallow funds from going into online gambling (except for the “good gambling” like horse racing, bingo, and state lotteries). some of the initial “bad news” is that poker companies are plummeting big time in the wake of the bill, and some of the “middle men” pay services (*cough* firepay *cough*) are jacking up their rates and changing their TOS to put the screws into anyone who is trying to abandon ship.

but, it does seem as though their are a few rays of hope if you believe the online poker companies. according to full tilt poker, poker stars, and full contact poker, as long as you use a middle man service (like Neteller, who coincidentally has not changed their TOS), you will be able to play online poker just like you did before the bill was passed. also, to add to this, it seems membership in the poker players alliance has been increasing dramatically ever since the pass of the bill. i’m hoping that this means a lot more money and voice flowing into the legitamized skill of professional poker… we could definitely use your help to keep the fight going. keep your fingers crossed.

in loving tribute

Posted by Marshall in August 15th 2006

this post is a loving tribute to man kind’s 2 greatest inventions. versatile, delicious, and wholly satisfying… these inventions have withstood the test of time and are beloved by millions, maybe even billions. they are great inventions in their own right, but when combined make for the best damn sandwich this side of the atlantic. drum roll, please! the 2 inventions are (in no particular order):

  1. Peanut Butter
  2. Jelly

make that peanut butter extra crunchy y’all!
